What is VDCbase
VDCbase was created through a collaboration between Lex Ransijn and Japser de Mink, who were both working independently in 2018. Together, they took on two assignments to support developers in the field of openBIM implementation within organizations.
Based on extensive practical experience and using international open standards and workflows, we worked with the internal team of enthusiastic employees within the companies to initiate a change process within the organizations.
VDCbase is an independent openBIM consultancy firm, founded and led by Lex Ransijn.
Lex Ransijn is the leader and owner of VDCbase B.V. and a leading specialist in the field of openBIM workflows, data interoperability, and digital transformation in the built environment. He has been working at the intersection of policy, standardization, and practice for many years, thereby building a unique bridge between international standards and the daily reality of construction projects.
In addition to his role at VDCbase, Lex is active within buildingSMART Netherlands and is chairman of the Benelux jury for the openBIM Awards. In that role, he connects international openBIM standards with Dutch construction practice and actively contributes to their further development and adoption.
With a strong background in BIM management and implementation, VDCbase guides organizations and projects in operationalizing open standards such as IFC and IDS. Among other things, Lex played a key role in the development of the Information Delivery Specification (IDS) within buildingSMART. His conviction in this regard is clear: openBIM only really works when agreements are not only understandable to people, but also machine-readable and verifiable.
What sets VDCbase apart is its hands-on approach. We combine technical depth with practical applicability and guide organizations and chains in virtual collaboration. From data modeling and software interoperability to chain processes and organizational change: VDCbase turns abstract ambitions into concrete reality.
